PROS
● Advanced sensor
● Reliable wireless connection
CONS
● Not rechargeable
● Can feel small to bigger hands
● Stiff competition
For gamers, it is essential to have the best equipment. Then you can blame yourself for poor performance. The new Logitech G304 or G305 (depending on the region) wireless gaming mouse could be the perfect mouse for entry-medium gamers as it punches far above its weight with specs and features. The Logitech G305 Lightspeed is an excellent option if you want a gaming mouse without a cord. Lightweight, it’s available in several colors and it’s reasonably priced.
More importantly, it’s reliable. The Lightspeed 2.4 GHz dongle connection by Logitech will not disappoint you if you have reservations about even the best wireless mouse due to lag time or dropouts.
Logitech claims that the time it takes for your favorite space shooter to blow up that alien craft will be just a millisecond. Even though we couldn’t measure that, our hands did tell us this wireless mouse performs very well for a gaming mouse.
This is also a pretty basic one. As an expensive wireless gaming mouse like the Logitech G903 Lightspeed, the Logitech G305 Lightspeed lacks numerous features you’d expect. A major benefit of the G305 is that it migrates the same wireless functionality from the killer mouse to a mid-priced peripheral that gamers and non-gamers alike will admire for its minimalist design, long battery life, and excellent real-world performance.
DESIGN
Aside from the narrow thumb buttons and the ridged scroll wheel, the G305 looks similar to the Logitech G Pro gaming mouse. In contrast to the G Pro, the G305 does not have the thin illumination strip, but otherwise looks as if someone had cut down the wire on the G Pro. However, the G Pro has almost no wasted space, making it a sleek, comfortable mouse.
Aside from being only 1.5 inches tall, the peripheral measures 4.5 by 2.5 inches. It is one of the lightest full-size wireless mice available today, suitable for both palm- and claw-grip players. Still, it’s probably a good idea to get a few rechargeable AA batteries.
There are six buttons on the keyboard: a left button, a right button, a clickable scroll wheel, a dots-per-inch sensitivity adjustment, and two thumb buttons.
The G305 is a beautiful mouse, but it lacks lighting. This feature probably would have raised the price by at least $10, and it’s purely visual. This has become standard on even less expensive Logitech mouse. There is another small disadvantage for lefties. Its design is almost entirely ambidextrous, but the right side has no thumb buttons. There aren’t many lefty-friendly mouse from Logitech, and asymmetrical mouse like the G305 could have helped those of the sinistral persuasion get into the game.
FEATURES
The G305 works wirelessly with any computer right out of the box using a dongle that can be stored inside the mouse itself. The mouse comes with four DPI sensitivities built right in, so simply plug it in and you’re ready to go. In addition to customizing the DPI settings, you can adapt what the buttons do with the Logitech Gaming Software - not too surprising, but everything works as expected.
According to our testing, you can use the G305 wirelessly in a living room set up at more than 10 feet away with no issues. A single AA battery (included) powers the G305, unlike some of Logitech’s more expensive mouse.
On average, the mouse is estimated to run for 250 hours on a single charge, or a little more than a month if you use it for 8 hours every day. The cost of one battery per month is not a bad investment, and the lack of a built-in, rechargeable battery keeps the weight and cost down.
PERFORMANCE
In order to evaluate how well the G305 performed, we played Overwatch, World of Warcraft, etc. We tested the G305 to the fullest extent possible, and you won’t be surprised to learn that it handled every task with ease.
With its outstanding performance and reliable LIGHTSPEED wireless technology, which reduces latency to 1ms, this mouse is essentially on par with a wired gaming mouse at the moment. There are 5 feet made of polytetrafluoroethylene under the mouse to help it glide smoothly on almost any surface, including glass and cheap polymer mousepads. When it comes to sensor accuracy, the G304 is as accurate as the much more expensive G502.
COMPETITORS AND DISADVANTAGE
The larger issue is that the G305 seems perfectly content with offering only wireless through a USB dongle. The mouse’s competitors, including the Razer Atheris and Logitech’s own productivity mouse, both support Bluetooth and USB wireless.
A USB dongle works wonderfully with computers but is useless with smartphones, tablets, and game consoles. While the G305 doesn’t require Bluetooth, its inclusion would have made it feel sturdier.
DO YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR?
Despite the fact that the packaging contains just a USB receiver, an extension cord, a mouse, and a battery, the specifications and ergonomics of the mouse offer more value than any other mouse in the $30-$50 price range. In the beginning, I purchased this mouse for its wireless capabilities for productivity use, while my G402 would be the gaming choice. The G402 has been replaced as my gaming mouse of choice after just a month of usage. People with large hands or those using claw grips with large hands need to be careful since it can be quite uncomfortable if the mouse is too small for them.
THE VERDICT
With a price of just $40, this mouse is a perfect choice for anyone, whether a casual user, gamer or hardcore enthusiast. Logitech’s wireless mouse is the cheapest way to enter the world of wireless mouse. Although a cheaper wireless mouse is available, they do not offer the same level of quality and build as Logitech. A highly recommended mouse as Logitech has really outdone themselves with this one.
